The study of the durability of heterogeneous materials (coatings, composites...) in aggressive environments requires the identification of the mechanisms involved in the degradation of polymers (binder,matrix...), but also the understanding of what are the interfaces/interphase in these materials. These skills have been largely developed since several years, through the development of a multi-scale approach using the characterization techniques available in the laboratory. A recently committed approach also involves the numerical modeling of the properties of these materials and their evolutions. New smart interphases concepts are also developed which fulfill the specific features of materials in the marine environment (corrosion protection , hydrolysis resistance...).
