The current trend is to limit or eliminate cleaning operations in farms in order to preserve their reef effect, and thus reduce their environmental impact, while drastically limiting maintenance costs. This is only possible if the phenomenon of biocolonisation is sufficiently understood to be anticipated. A focus on mooring lines and dynamic cables seems essential, as these key components are presumed to have different hydromechanical behaviour and therefore different wear once colonised. As (…)

Smart polymers for sustainable marine antifouling coatings
25 April 2024, by ChBECO-SmartAF :
Funding: ANR
Short Overview: The ECO-SmartAF project aims to develop new sustainable and environmentally friendly marine antifouling coatings to reduce the carbon footprint of maritime transport. Our approach is to design smart coatings that combine contact activity with appropriate amphiphilic surface chemistry, both of which prevent the adhesion of marine organisms. Smart alkoxyamine-based monomers will be designed to prepare seawater and/or enzyme-responsive polymers to (…) -
Antifouling piezoelectric vibratory system
24 July 2024, by ChBAcronym: PIEZOVIB
Funding: ANR
Short Overview: The PIEZOVIB project, between the CEA, the MAPIEM and the IFREMER, fits into this context. The proposed solution uses the vibration of the measuring surface by the use of piezoelectric actuators, outside the measuring periods. The surfaces will be transparent or not depending on the type of measurement. This project is based on the conclusive experience acquired in this field for three years, between the MAPIEM laboratory of the University (…) -
Antifouling Coatings for War Ships
7 June 2016, by Hugues BRISSETFinancement:
EDA Project.B0001-GEM1-ERG and B0945-GEM1-ERG
Description:
The pressure of environment regulations has reached to ban tin containing antifouling coatings, which could have fulfilled the objectives of dry-docking intervals previously mentioned. In addition, other metallic compounds are considered to be regulated in a near future such as copper base products well known to-day as antifouling components.
New tin free self polishing / ablative antifoulings have been (…) -
IMPacts RECIproques entre Microorganismes et Métaux traces en milieu marin côtier : qui contrôle qui ?

EC2CO INSI CNRS
Description

Short Overview:
In a context of a global increase of the anthropogenic pressure and impacts on the marine environment, innovative products reducing the ecological footprint of shipping which could be accepted and endorsed by local population should be developed. The general objective of this cross-sectoral, pluri- and interdisciplinary project, which involve both researcher from natural and (…) -
Stop alle Plastiche in H2O!

SPLASH Funding:
[Programme MARITTIMO Interreg Italie-France Maritime] Short Overview:
SpLASH, via pluridisciplinary methodologies, aims to retrieve data on microplastics occurrence at the surface but also in the seawater column, the superficial sediments and biotic compartiments. In addition, like all surfaces immersed in marine environments, microplastics are quickly colonized by microorganisms that lead to 3D structures called biofilms. Their characteristics are associated (…)
